Amy Mounce is an experienced special educator, university instructor and teacher supervisor, educational diagnostician, advocate and parent and educator trainer with over 25 years of experience in the field of special education. She is dedicated to empowering students, families, and educators to improve student’ success across all settings. 

Leveraging experience as a teacher in public and private institutions at multiple levels, she has collaborated with families and educators to evaluate and create customized educational programs for individual and groups of students.  She works collaboratively with families and educators, using quantitative and qualitative inputs, to create educational programs that proactively meet the needs of individual students using efficacy metrics.  She provides recommendations, guidance, and advocacy for students with disabilities throughout the special education process- identification, eligibility for services, IEP/504 development, implementation, instruction, and annual reviews.  She has worked with a variety of children with disabilities including Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Vision and Hearing Impairments and Twice Exceptional students.  Her expertise in administering and analyzing quantitative and qualitative educational assessments result in refined education programs which best utilize students’ strengths and support deficits.  She also creates and administers curriculum-based assessments permitting individual education program progress monitoring against state and school curriculum standards and goals.  Amy understands the importance of working proactively and collaboratively with stakeholders to create effective and sustainable supports across settings to meet academic and social-emotional needs of students.    

Amy earned a Master's degree in Learning Disabilities from Teachers College, Columbia University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in special education from American University.  In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking, exercising, and exploring the Washington Metropolitan Area (DC, MD, VA) with her husband, two children and dog.
